Our Curriculum at the Fenland Federation

Our aim is to provide the best possible education, opportunities and environment for our children to thrive and succeed in whatever they do during their time at our schools.

Intent

We have a desire to make learning appropriate and relevant for children of all needs and backgrounds, so they all have equal opportunities to achieve their fullest potential. We have designed our curriculum to inspire, excite, motivate and challenge our children. We aim to develop a love of learning beyond that of the classroom. We promote a culture of respect, independence and co-operation that is constantly embedded throughout all learning. Our curriculum is woven deeply within our school vision:

Implementation

We use the Cornerstones Curriculum as our starting point for a comprehensive and thematic curriculum, with a clear process of learning and specific learning goals for every subject. These objectives link directly to the National Curriculum (2014). Our diverse termly learning projects have been carefully crafted to inspire the children to make learning as meaningful and purposeful as possible. Our lessons are rich and motivating, allowing children to make creative links between all subjects. Children will solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively through the four stages of each project: Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express. This four stage pedagogy puts children's wellbeing and natural curiosity first, enabling them to learn through a positive and well-rounded approach. We ensure that the children get the correct balance of knowledge and skills which progress in difficulty as each project unfolds. We are passionate about ensuring our approach allows children to engage with their learning at a deep level, making links to previous learning and anticipating future investigation.

Living in Lincolnshire allows opportunities for children to experience many things first hand. We enrich our curriculum with visits where possible and use local experts such as authors, artists and subject specialists to bring learning to life. Our villages of Grainthorpe and Marshchapel have a rich history; we use local studies to supplement our curriculum further. Agriculture is at the heart of our school community and we weave this rich thread into our local focus.

Impact

Across all Key Stages, children are exposed to memorable learning experiences that they will remember for many years to come. By the end of each year, the children will know more, remember more, and be able to do more. Pupils will leave The Fenland Federation with a secure understanding of academic content that has been taught across all Key Stages. They will understand how to be socially, morally, spiritually and culturally responsible and aware. They will know how to make positive contributions to the local community and how to be the best that they can be. We aim for all our children to leave as respectful, skilful, ambitious, well-rounded human beings with a thirst for life and all it has to offer.
